Victorian Gladstone bag is named in honour of the 19th century British Prime Minister- William Ewart Gladstone, its distinctive rigid frame, wide opening "clamshell design" or "hinged metal frame opening" which allows the bag to open exceptionally wide, providing unparalleled access to its contents. The Gladstone bag is in original condition but the leather has been sympathetically conditioned, but still showing the beautiful patina. To the front of the bag it had its owner's initials stamped J.M.W. and still having its original labels attached ( as shown in pictures) There is a brass locking mechanism at each end, and rotates to an open or closed position. The inner lining is in good condition with two large pockets inside. Gladstone Bag By Arther Barber H: 30cm. W: 58cm. D:28cm
